We have created the only English-language pathway to the official Spanish Dental Hygiene qualification, with a hybrid residency model designed for working professionals.
The Higher Diploma in Dental Hygiene awarded by EPSUM is an official Spanish public qualification at level 5 EQF, recognised across the European Union and beyond.
The programme is delivered entirely in English. The model combines live digital seminars with intensive monthly in-person residencies of one week on the Madrid campus during the first year.
In the second year, students undertake a full clinical immersion at EPSUM’s outreach dental clinics, under direct dentist supervision.

Can I work while studying during the first year?
Yes. The first year is specifically designed for working professionals. Theory modules are online in the evenings and at weekends, and you only need to travel to Madrid one week per month for the intensive practical residencies.
Is the Spanish qualification valid in the EU or the UK?
The qualification is an official Spanish diploma at level 5 EQF, recognised across the EU. To practise in the UK or Ireland, an additional registration process with local authorities are required (GDC in the UK, Dental Council in Ireland). Each student who wants to practise in the UK or Ireland will be guided through this process.
What does the extended curriculum involve?
The programme delivers the official Spanish Government curriculum, enriched with additional modules aligned with the extended scope of dental hygienists: diagnostic, therapeutic and preventive procedures that ensure clinical equivalence in pan-European settings.
How does the clinical practice in Year 2 work?
In Year 2, students undertake a full clinical immersion at EPSUM’s clinics in Madrid. Patients are treated under the direct supervision of dentists, building a solid, documented clinical portfolio.
